  7. Cook kielbasa and onion: - *slice kielbasa at an angle inton1/2 inch pieces. - *combine onion, 2 tbsp butter, season salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Sautee for 3-5 minutes - *add kielbasa to onion mixture and cook through

  9. You can substitute sauerkraut for the onion in the kielbasa mixture if you desire. My husband doesn't like sauerkraut son onions work better for our family

It still tastes like kielbasa but without all the grease, a nice change. Also, after boiling the perogies, we always saute them with butter and onions before eating. Fry perogies until a light golden brown. I made mine with mashed potatoes and carmelized onions. I had to cover my dough with a moist paper towel while making the perogies because it began drying. sauteed onions are classic for potato-filled perogies.
